The Real Hell's Angel

Hello, all. I'm posting this by request from Ruth Walker. She has recently seen Christopher Hitchens' documentary entitled "Hell's Angel: Mother Teresa." Hitchens was called by the Vatican when Mother Teresa was canonized to fill the position of Devil's advocate. His book, The Missionary Position, is about Mother Teresa's life and work. It can be found in three parts here. I hope you enjoy the Hitch as much as I do!

This is posted in little taste.

Apparently "Free-Thinking" has little to do with fair, reasonable, and scholarly discussion.

Thank you for explaining why in such a fair, reasonable, and scholarly way.

What about this post has inhibited you from discussing anything?

Great videos. A perfect companion to "The Missionary Position", which I read probably a month ago.

Don't be uncritical of even the most seemingly innocuous sacred idols, exposing them to fresh air generally tends to corrode their veneer, or completely dissolve it in the case of Mother Teresa and her obsession with suffering.

Penn and Teller also made a very good episode of Bullshit on the same topic.

Read Colette Livermore's HOPE ENDURES Leaving Mother teresa, Losing faith, and Searching for Meaning. It is the story of a former missionary of charity who left the order after 11 years disillusioned.
